Some studies have showed that there might be a connection between early rising and being successful.
An evidence that supports that, is the large number of incredibly successful people ranking top one percent in their fields, who are early risers.
Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple wakes up at 3:45am every day.
Michelle Obama starts her day by 4:30am.
NextDesk director, Dan Lee starts his day by 3:30 am.
Consider Jark Dorsey too, a co-founder of twitter, he begins his day at 5:30am.
From this trend, we can infer that early rising might be a contributing element to wild success.
While the habit of waking up early might seem unneeded and hard to many—nights owls especially, it has a lot of life-changing benefits that boosts productivity and overall success.
In Tim Ferris' words, "If you win the morning, you win the day".
Here are three of the innumerable benefits you get from rising early each day:
1. Rising early sets the tone for the day
A lot of top performers around the world have routine activities they stick religiously to each day, as soon as they get off the bed. These set the ball rolling for the day's work.
Mostly, it includes drinking a glass of water, doing some exercise, meditating, sending important mails and a whole lot of others.
Each activity plays an important role in setting a good tone for the day.
Excercise for instance, boosts the memory and thinking, according to a research carried out by some researchers in University of Columbia.
When you wake up really early to get some tasks done, it become a productivity boost that gives you energy and a sense of purpose. Armed with that, you start your day with high optimism, grinding hard on your goals.
On the personal front, I have about six interesting routine activities that I do very early in the morning before I start working on my big goals.
These activities have been quite conditioned to mornings as that is the only time I get them done. And it happens that If I don't do them in the morning, I won't do them for the rest of the day.
One of it is reading books. While it is highly recommended to create a thirty minutes bed-time reading habit, I find goodness in mornings as the best time to read.
This is not necessarily because I need some motivation from books to get me started, but rather because a start-off with books equips me a feeling of happiness and accomplishment that propels me to yearn for more accomplishments!
2. Solitude
The crack of the dawn is one of the best times to be immersed in solitude.
Seizing the opportunity of the extra hours of the early morning grants you an unfractured attention to help with some important personal duties—journaling, reflections, mediations, and other tasks that require deep concentration.
3. Organization and productivity
A good time to get your stuffs organized is the early hours of the morning. To a remarkable extent, being organized improves productivity.
Setting goals, planning your day, writing your to-do list, completing unfinished work are all important activities that when done in the morning, contribute to a hassle-free super-productive day. And of course, overall success.
HOW TO WAKE UP EARLY EVERYDAY
“Early to bed, early to rise” is a popular saying from Benjamin Franklin. One does not need to consult a sleep expert in order to deduce the meaning of the statement—that going to bed early is the key to waking up early.
Going to bed early each day as a key to being an early riser, comes with a high level of discipline—a level that I am yet to achieve as I write.
However, being motivated to wake up early does the "early to bed, early to rise" job for me.
Here is how:
Each night before I go to bed, I note down the important activities that I must do immediately when I wake up. This is not my to-do list for the day—just a list of about six valuable activities that sets me in motion the next day. Included in these six are religious duties and reading a book.
So, I sleep with the intention of waking up early to do these activities and that becomes my key motivation to wake up early.
Forming an early morning routine and sticking to it can be a great way that ensures you go to bed early.
Because you do not want to miss out on your important routine activities, you are motivated to wake up early and get them done. So, you go to bed early to get a good night rest that helps to boost your performance the next day.
And yes, that was a wrap.
I will be glad to hear your thoughts on the points raised in the article.
